Have you noticed this gnat zipping around your home? Master Gardeners are now answering questions about the fungus gnat. When people bring their plants in from the outdoors in the fall they often bring these insects in with the plant. If the plants have been outside most of the summer or if they have potted the plants in garden soil the soil may be contaminated with the eggs and nymphs of the fungus fly. These plants should be replanted in bagged potting soil to eliminate the problem. It also helps to spray the plants with insecticide prior to welcoming them into the home.
