Organic Dairy Pasture Walk

CCE Allegany County, together with NOFA-NY are hosting a Dairy Pasture Walk on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at the farm of Sara & Jeremy Hatch in Freedom, NY. In business since 2001, transitioning to organic in 2004, Emary Springs Farm currently milks 30 cows with ~25 acres of pasture. They built a new facility 6 months ago and are now utilizing a robot. Sara & Jeremy will share some of the more recent changes made on the farm along with goals for grazing in the future.

Join Chris Kemnah, NOFA-NY and Lynn Bliven, CCE Allegany County for an informative dairy pasture walk focused on practical pasture management strategies. Topics will include grazing standards, tools for managing rotationally grazed pasture, weed control, and improving pasture productivity. There will be ample time for participants’ questions and discussion tailored to your farm.

Event will begin at 9:30 AM with coffee, refreshments, and barn tour. Pasture walk will wrap up at noon with lunch to follow provided by USDA’s Transition to Organic Partnership Program and CCE Allegany County. This event will be held rain or shine, please dress accordingly. Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences and questions throughout the pasture walk. To maintain biosecurity, please wear footwear that can be easily disinfected at the farm, or plastic boot covers will be provided.
