Solar and Ag in Allegany County: What You Need to Know

Solar development on agricultural land is becoming more widespread in Allegany County. To address some of the critical issues and answer some of the questions surrounding this activity, we invite farmers, and landowners to an educational workshop.

This workshop will discuss some of the important issues regarding solar development on agricultural land, including leasing land to solar companies. Every farmer and landowner should have a chance to learn the ins and outs of solar development.This workshop will provide updates on the solar industry concerning agricultural land use and aim to answer some of the key questions.

The $15 fee will cover light refreshments and lunch.

Registration starts at 9:30 AM and the presentations begining at 10:00 AM with:

  • David Kay, Senior Extension Associate, Department of Global Development, CALS, Cornell University -“Utility Scale Solar Development in New York State”
  • Linda Garrett, American Farmland Trust, NY Regional Director -“Solar as an AG Viability Tool.”
  • Matt Sousa, Senior Planning Associate, MRB Group -“Solar Energy System Application Reviews and Process.”
  • Simon Honig, Esq., Associate Attorney, Colligan Law LLP -"What Farmers Need To Know About Solar Leases."

Program will wrap up by 2:30 pm.
