Rotational Grazing & Soil Health

  • Wednesday, July 24, 2024, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Join us for an interactive pasture walk focused on the relationship of rotational grazing and soil health.

Host Rob Chamberlain will share knowledge gained through his experience managing a grazing operation for his 160 head crossbred herd, heavy influence on Devon breeding. He is currently running cow/calf pairs through grazing season, marketing grassfed feeders year-round. He will also discuss the installation of a solar water system which was key to improving the ability to rotate cattle more intensively.

NRCS Soil Scientist Matt Havens & Zach Warning will discuss what you can learn about the health of your soil from pit.

Katelyn Miller, SWNY Forage Management Specialist, will be on hand to discuss timing for weed management in pasture systems.

The Grazing Stick, provided by NRCS, will also be available for beginner graziers. Lynn Bliven, CCE Allegany County, will introduce this tool.

Light refreshments and beverages provided. Please wear clean boots! Disposable boots will be available.

Look for signs to CCE event, you’ll travel .9 of a mile from road on farm lay. It’s well maintained and there is room to turn around at the top

Registration not required however preferred to help us with planning for refreshment and handouts: contact Lynn Bliven at lao3@cornell.edu or 585-268-7644 x18 to register.
