Under new rules to begin on January 1, 2025, the wetlands protected by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC) will change. In the past, only certain wetlands that were mapped and of a minimum size were protected. While the maps will still be accessible for informational purposes, under the new regulations the NYSDEC will also regulate smaller wetlands known as "wetlands of unusual importance".
Join Krista Spohr, Environmental Program Specialist for NYSDEC’s Bureau of Ecosystem Health, for a presentation on recent changes to wetland protection by NYSDEC’s Freshwater Wetlands Program. The presentation will provide an overview of current freshwater wetlands regulations and how they are enforced. Krista will explain the need for regulatory changes and outline the forthcoming regulatory changes and their effective dates. Public comments on the changes will be encouraged starting in June.
