SOUTHERN TIER SOIL HEALTH FIELD DAY

Please join CCE Allegany County and partnering soil health experts for a full day of presentations on principles of soil management followed by a field walk with discussion and demonstrations on assessing soil health. The NY Soil Health Trailer will be on site along with the Genesee River Watershed Interseeder. Program will cover both crop (field & vegetable) and grazing management strategies to maintain and improve soil health.

The morning session will be at the Birdsall Inn, 9011 County Rd 15B Birdsall, NY. Topics to be covered: Principles of no till and interseeding with Stephanie Castle, Watershed Agriculture Coordinator; Introduction to soil health planning principles – Paul Salon, NRCS; Cornell Soil Health Assessment tests – Kirsten Kurtz, Cornell Soil Health Lab Manager; Soil Health on Rented Farmland: Working with the Landowner of the Future - Jeff Ten Eyck, CCA, NY Ag Stewardship Specialist

Our host farm for the afternoon session will be Birds-All Dairy – Janice Brown & Kim Shaklee, will share knowledge gained through their experience managing a grazing dairy. Soil Management Field Discussion & Demonstrations led by Fay Benson, CCE and Jonathan Barter, Steuben County SWCD along with Paul Salon & Matt Havens from NRCS.

Sponsored by Allegany County Soil & Water Conservation District. The cost is $10/person if pre-registered by August 24th or $15 at the door. Lunch is included - choice of: Beef on Weck, Grill Chicken or Veggie Burger.
