Star Gazing – Moons of Jupiter, Rings of Saturn, Double Stars, Globular Clusters

  • Monday, August 14, 2017, 8:30 PM - 11:00 PM

Join CCE Allegany and Master Sky Watcher Mary Lu Wells

Star Gazers, this is a good year to look at the Rings of Saturn; this fall the rings will be at their widest point for best visibility from Earth.

We will also find the 4 Galilean moons: lo, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto which were recorded by Galileo himself in 1610!

Never seen a double star? Peer through the telescope provided by the Alfred Box of Books and you will be able to see Albireo which comprises a blue and golden star.

Finish off the night with a view of a Globular Cluster that is BILLIONS of years old and consists of millions of stars.

Bring boots, binoculars, blankets, bug-spray, your sky apps and a curious mind to 4981 McAndrews Road, Alfred at 8:30 p.m. on Monday August 14th, if the sky is clear. 607-587-8437

A clear night is necessary if Monday August 14th isn't clear, we will try Tuesday, Aug. 15, or Wednesday, Aug. 16, or Thursday, Aug. 17 until we get a lovely night. Double check by calling 607-587-8437.

No need to register, just come. Free to the public.
